Solidification-stabilization unit

Solidification-stabilisation technology is mainly used to treat waste for further recovery (recycling) or disposal (landfilling). It does not remove contaminants from the waste but eliminates its negative impact on the environment.

The solidification device, the main part of which is a homogenizer (mixer), mixes and homogenizes waste with suitable additives so that after the mixture solidifies, the contaminants are firmly bound in the structure of the solidifier and are not released into the environment.

Solidification equipment is suitable for the processing of dusty, loose, sludge or liquid materials. It is also suitable for the treatment of sewage sludge by liming or for the homogenisation of raw materials and materials in technological processes.

Industrial applications

More than 180 types of waste from the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) can be processed using the stabilisation-solidification technology. It constitutes approximately 50% of the total quantity of hazardous waste generated in the EU each year.

This technology is most often used in fields like:

  • treatment, recycling and disposal of waste

  • industries generating waste sludge (chemical, metallurgical, engineering, etc.)

  • construction

  • remediation of contaminated sites

Equipment description

The key equipment of the stabilisation/solidification line is a double shaft mixer (homogeniser), in which the material to be processed (waste) is mixed with stabilising additives and water. Other equipment required for the operation of the stabilisation/solidification line are:

  • a hopper and dosing feeder for the processed material,
  • a hopper and dosing feeder for the stabilisation additives,
  • a conveyor for the discharge of the stabilised material,
  • an electrical switchboard with control panel,
  • automation elements.

Important operating data and data on the quality and quantity of materials processed can be exported in the form of batch-by-batch reports.

The capacity of the supplied stabilisation/solidification equipment ranges from 2 to 40 t/h. The electrical power required for their operation is from 5 to 50 kW.

Due to the nature of the homogeniser used (double shaft mixer), the granularity of the material that can be processed on the line is limited (max. 50 mm).

Thanks to automation and remote access, the line can be controlled from a touch screen located on the technology or remotely via computer or telephone.
